This is something that I’ve wanted to discuss for a while now, but I really wasn’t sure how I wanted to share it with everyone. I don’t honestly know if I was just shy about the subject but it is something that I’m pretty happy about.
As of a few months ago, I disabled all monetization of all of my YouTube videos. I had monetization active (running ads for money) for a while, but I’ve realized more and more that it isn’t the right approach for the Megacycle Entertainment community and felt more as a punishment for viewers, rather than a reward to watch the videos that I personally release. Even though my ads were minimal (1 ad per video, regardless if the video was 30 minutes or 2 hours long) I still wasn’t really happy with how Google handled the process, or how the videos were chosen to be shown. More times than not, the videos were very political, very religious or incredibly violent and that doesn’t reflect well on what the ME community stands for.
The staff of Megacycle Entertainment put a lot of emphasis on fostering a positive gaming experience for all games. Everyone, from any walk of life, is more than welcome to join in on the conversation and meet some new gaming friends. That is just the bottom line and the ads that were shown didn’t reflect those values.
That all being said, I’m currently accepting financial support via Patreon and Ko-fi. This means that our gaming community will be producing free content and will be supported by the community, like it should be.
